About 35 million metropolitan homes in the U.S. have one or more health and safety hazards, conditions that
can cause significant illness, injury, and death. We can prevent many accidents through housing regulation,
inexpensive repairs, ongoing maintenance, and small behavior changes. The purpose of the State of Healthy

Data

With all of the emerging opportunities to finance healthy homes services through the healthcare system, it can be overwhelming to decide where to start. Our resource library provides an overview of key financing strategies, examples of home-based lead and asthma programs that are currently being financed through nonprofit hospitals and public or private insurance, and links to resources that are available to help state and local agencies or other stakeholders explore options for healthcare financing of healthy homes in their own communities.

The National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition is a broad, voluntary coalition of over 300 organizations working to improve housing conditions nationwide through education and outreach to key national stakeholders and federal public decision-makers.
